Make it Extreme's jumping bike-scooter



The team of make it extreme has created an unusual vehicle as this week’s construction. Because of its uniqueness as we have not seen something similar to this yet, we called it ‘jumping bike’ as to move it we need to do some jumps on it. Our vehicle with the number 0067 looks like something between a scooter and a bike. At its front part, there is a wheel while at the back side there are two wheels. It is quite tall so it can be used on the streets and on the sand. However, the main reason of making it was its interesting mechanism that we needed to create it and it can inspire many other manufacturers to make various other projects. Without being certain, we think that this bike is the first in the world that works in this way.

First of all, we started making the particular construction using an old fitness machine that was modified taking the jumping bike’s body. The body of this bike is consisted of two parts that are connected with a common central axis. Also, a spring holds both of these bodies steadily and they are only moved when they feel the human’s weight on them. While they are bended, they shape an angle of 60 degrees unlike when they accept the load on them the angle becomes 180 degrees.

Furthermore, the front movable part is connected with chains using a mechanism located at the other movable part, which is on two gears. Therefore, when somebody jumps on it and the body stretches, the chains are stretched too. Thus the gears are coming back to move the pulley. Additionally, when the human’s weight is removed from the bike the gears are taking their initial position and to make it move again, another leap should be made. 

Generally, the particular mechanism turns the horizontal move into a spinning one. The final move of the wheels is caused by a pulley through a belt placed on the axis and reaches the wheels. Even if the particular bike is not so ergonomic as a common bike, it is still enjoyable and interesting to ride it as it is something out of the common. Closing, we are very happy adding another vehicle in our collection and we are already prepared to make the next vehicle!

Making hydraulic cylinder


Our previous project gave us the chance to hold and modify longer pieces on the lathe. Using the particular construction, we decided to make a hydraulic plunger, which will be placed on a future construction that we are planning to make. The plungers and generally, the hydraulic systems are very useful tools as it is required great power and loads. These plungers have multiple uses in various machines and tools. The procedure of making a plunger is relatively simple.

First of all, to create our own plunger, we took a tube of 80mm x 60cm length, the suitable dimensions for the particular purpose. On the one edge, we made a thread while at the other end of the cylinder, we conglutinated a metallic cap. Also, from the one to the other end of the cylinder, we conglutinated two inputs, from which the oil passes through with pressure moving the axis of the hydraulic plunger forward and backward.

Regarding the axis of the plunger that we used for our construction, it has 45mm diameter and 65cm length. We placed thread in both its edges. On the one edge, the component that is moved forward and backward in the cylinder is connected to it while at the front, we made a thread to be able to connect it to the machine that we are planning to make in the future.

To sum up, even if our plunger gets damaged because of its use, it will be easily repaired and the damaged components can be replaced too. Although, it is a very simple construction, the hydraulic systems will give us the potential to make plenty extreme constructions in the future.

Making a steady rest for metal lathe


The particular video was not only interesting but also it was necessary to be made as the tool that we created, this time, will provide us further help in the following structures. The tool that we created is a steady rest tool for our lathe. When we bought the lathe, we felt insufficient without having this tool so we decided to make one. It is very useful as it supports long pieces that we want to work on and it reduces the declination of being precise. Also, it prevents the thin pieces to be bend during the work on them and it provides many other benefits too.

We started making it by taking the measures of the lathe so that our component would be placed precisely and be able to be locked at the point we want. Therefore, we made its base, in which we placed two rings having 4cm distance between them. Separating these rings in 120 degrees in other words dividing them in three parts, we spotted the points to put the rails between the rings. These rails, on which the guided parts were placed, are moved forward and backward when we want to in order to be able to support pieces in various diameters. 

At the internal side of the movable parts, we placed a bearing so that the parts that we support to be able to spin smoothly. The only disadvantage that we have noticed on our structure is that we didn’t make it to open and close so that it can be only removed by removing the piece of the lathe. Closing, it is quite sufficient and a perfect tool for the purposes we need it, after all.
