Making a hoverboard from Junk



Glad to say that's the 42nd structure by make it extreme! For this structure we were inspired from many videos uploaded on youtube where people use hover boards for entertainment. 

Our aim was to make a hoverboard using the parts of an old gym piece of equipment as well as other recycled and reused materials. We took a 300w motor and the electronic parts out of the gym piece of equipment so the motor would be able to perform correctly!

The next stage was to make an axle, using the lathe, where we put two old tires from a crashed four wheeler. Then we placed the electronic parts the motor and the wheels on a metal frame and the hoverboard started getting shape.  

We used a belt to connect the wheels to the motor and that's how we achieved movement using electricity. Here came the issue!! We had to use a 12v battery to a 240v structure! This issue was solved using an inverter, which was the only piece we had to buy, once we didn't own one. Then we placed a metal sheet on the board in order to be able to stand on.

It's dimensions are 110cm x 32cm.  

We initially believed that it would be easy to keep our balance without the use of a gyroscope sensor but when tried, that was extremely difficult. So we 've placed a small wheel behind the wheels in the center and the balance was achieved!!

Using the hoverboard, we noted another serious disadvantage which was the missing of breaks!

It is undoubtedly one of the most extreme hoverboards ever made!!

Make it Extreme's Workbench



The idea of our next video and structure came up after trying to create our working place, where we make our structures and our video clips. Therefore, we made our workbench. 

Even though, it sounds simple to be made, it is not; as this working bench has some specialties compared to the most common ones. Making this working bench, our primary aim was to make it going up and down adjusting it to the proper level that we need to work in order to enable our body and don’t injure our back by taking the wrong posture while working. Also, we aimed to make it more functional, comfortable and relaxing as it is possible. 

The lowest level that we wanted to make it was as high as it is the ground and the highest at the 75cm as this level is the most ergonomic according to the bibliography. The reason that we wanted the nonentity in height was that in case of making a big structure in our working place to be able to have a lot of space to work and not having a long working bench taking the most of our space.
Also, the particular bench enables us to lift heavy objects and work on them at the best height.  To achieve the nonentity in height, we created a cement place below the surface of the ground of our working place in order to be able to put mechanisms like the motor and other stuff in it.  

Therefore, before placing the ground of the working place, we had already dug a place where we put a wooden mold and filled it up with concrete. Then, we made the floor and the only thing that was missing, was our structure. Thus, we made two bases, the one at the bottom which is motionless and the one on the top which moves supported by a motor as well as it is elevated at the height of our desire. Both these two metallic bases are connected with two metallic scissors that are moved on rails supported by the bearing and the more they get widely open the bench gets lower while when they come together the bench elevates. On these scissors, we connected a screw which is revolved by a jack of 240v that was modified. While the screw is revolving, it screws the scissor towards the motor as a result we have some motion.  While screwing, our working bench is elevating however while unscrewing, the bench is declining. On the mechanism that encourages the upward and downward motion of our structure, we welded a whole surface of work that is 118cm x 221cm in size. 

This surface of work was created using sheet metal of 3mm thickness. Furthermore, we preferred a metallic surface as most of our projects were made of metal. Finally, our working bench has a total height 120cm, of which the 45cm are placed below the ground.

Metal Melting Furnace



Another essential structure for the ‘make it extreme’ team is an oven for melting metallic objects and creating new ones. Therefore, we decided to make this oven in order to reclaim the useless metallic objects and create brand new structures in molds for the creation of random structures for various uses. 

To start with, we made cyclical, metallic wreaths. After using sheet metal layering on them, we managed to make 2 cylinders, from which the one is 10cm thick and it consists the cap and the other one is 65cm height and it is the body of our oven. Then, we closed the one side of each cylinder and we made a stoppered, cylindrical-shaped oven. Next, we put a metallic plate on the bottom of our oven in order to place a special molding pot. On the top, we made a hole to pass through the items that we need to melt. In addition, we can also check the state of our oven at the particular time through this hole. To keep our oven warm, we dressed it with mineral wool, which was dressed with ceramic fiber that is a material that endures in very high temperatures. Also, we placed a thermometer on the outer surface of the oven to be acknowledged of the internal temperature of our structure.

Finally, we made an entrance at the bottom of the one side of the oven to place the burner that we manufactured in the previous video shared on our site. By just using a cylindrical gas we managed to get the temperature that we wanted in the internal surface of our oven. Regarding movement issues, we have also the solution as we placed wheels to be easy to move.

Jet propane torch for metal melting foundry



This time, our structure is a burner, which will be used in our upcoming video. The particular burner will indicate the temperature that currently exists inside the oven the one that we are going to make in order to be able to melt aluminum and other minerals. Our burner combines the air and the propane to create their proper combination aiming to achieve the perfect combustion. 

To make this burner, we used compounds and metallic pieces of tubes that we use for plumbing. Also, we made two entrances, from which the air is inserted to the one and the propane is inserted to the other while both are met and end up in a tube where if they get flamed they will get burnt. Regulating the air and the propane, we get the ‘perfect’ combustion. At the entrance, where the air is inserted, we used a regulator that controls the flow of the air that we want to provide. While the flow of the propane is controlled by a valve that we placed. 

Additionally, we placed a watch on the flask of propane to get the ideal flow of propane by it. Therefore, lighting up the burner from the front and regulating the mixture of air and propane, we get a very powerful and impressive flame, which can warm the oven that we are making, giving us the best possible outcome!

Belt Grinder


After all the requests that we received from our subscribers inquiring to watch how a belt grinder is made, we decided to make one. Therefore, our new structure with the number 0038 is a fact. 

Firstly, we got an oval-shaped flange of 5mm thickness and this is how we made the base of our machine. Then, we designed and cut the shape of the belt grinder from a metallic plate of 5mm thickness and we welded it vertically on the oval base. 

Choosing a very powerful motor of 2hp and 3000rpm, we adjusted it on our base in 90 degrees with the frame of the belt grinder. On the axis of the motor, we placed an aluminum wheel that we made it on the Lathe having 8cm diameter and it is used to revolve the belt from the sandpaper. We also made three smaller wheels on the lathe that are revolved freely and the belt of 72’’ length revolves by the use of the motor on them. These three, free wheels were made by aluminum and their diameter is 5cm. The two wheels were placed motionless on the frame of our structure so that our belt would revolve and move vertically according to the base of our machine. The third of the wheels was placed on a moveable lever which is moved up and down to regulate the stretching of the belt and to help in its change when it is needed. However, the use of the third wheel is not only limited in keeping the belt stretched but also in regulating its move on the right and on the left so that when a screw is revolved, we will be able to choose how left or right our belt will be declined in order to ensure that the belt will be moved at the center of our wheels and not going out of the sidelines of the wheels’ frame. 

Then, we created a base, in which are placed the objects that will be rubbed in order to ensure our stability and security while using it. Also, a base at the side of our machine, gives us the opportunity to use various components depending on the work or the outcome that we aim to achieve. The belt used, has 72’’ length and 2’’ width. To sum up, the belt grinder is a very useful machine as you can use it to sharpen, remove a material from iron or wood, give different shapes and even polish objects depending on the grit of the sandpaper that you use. This machine is great and can be activated by the simple touch of a switch that is located on its base!
