Angle Grinder Hack 4 (portable edition)



This time by using the battery angle grinder, we managed to make an improved version of the angle grinder hack 4

We decided to use the particular angle grinder as it has a protective mechanism which automatically stops when more power than the one allowed has been exerted.

Therefore, we are protected from any accidents that might happen in case the tree-cutters make a kick back and the chain hits the human body. 
After the experiment that we had done on the previous hack, we found it necessary to lubricate the chain bar as well as the chain itself in order to avoid the rising of the temperature of both the bar and the chain. Doing this, we managed to increase the existence of the chain. The lubrication is achieved using an automated mechanism that when it orbits, it releases a quantity of oil on the chain derived from a pot that is placed on the chain bar. Another important advantage of this structure is that is portable so that the user is able to move it around easily and cut the wood that he needs to use. 

However, its only disadvantage is its limited power and consequently, only a small chain bar and a cutting chain can be used. 
In this way, we managed to make a very light, portable chainsaw, with which we will be able to cut wood in small pieces and prune trees and bushes easily and silently.

Although, the power is obviously less than the equivalent hack 4, the advantages overweigh in a great extent the disadvantages as well as it provides much more security than the previous version.

Coil Engine (experiment)



The new experiment of the ‘make it extreme’ team is the making of a machine that will be able to revolve using electromagnets. 

To start with, we first collected 4 electromagnets having the total power of elevating an object weighing 200kg. Then, we placed the electromagnets in an immovable, metallic piece that was the basis of our machine. Next, we put a movable metallic material above the electromagnets that it declines due to the attraction caused by the electromagnets and it returns back to the primary point with the help of a spring. Doing this small, retrogressive move and using a system with gears, we are causing a constant, revolving move at the final point of our machine. Achieving this revolving move, our goal has been obtained moving a wheel of a bicycle. Therefore, although the wheel was being moving slow, this goal has been successfully obtained. Thus, besides the experience and the joy that we gained making this machine that is very precious and priceless to us, we came into our conclusions, as well. We concluded that we managed to make the most simplified kind of machine that gives us move very easily. Also, the electromagnets and their effectiveness as well as the way they move and they were placed, they form hundreds of combinations in order to increase the performance of the electromagnetic motor to be absolutely functional and effective. 

Accomplishing the particular experiment, made us make plans for the future thinking to make a vehicle that will be moved by electromagnets since we are very satisfied by the outcome we got by the particular project.
Maybe if we made a camshaft, the revolving move would be faster and smoother. To complete this project, we used electromagnets of 12volts with 50mm diameter.

Gasoline engine aluminium boat



An especially distinctive structure has been created this time by our team approaching it from different views both structural and functional. Besides our structural interest of creating it and the development of our knowledge and experience, our main aim was our entertainment while making it. We decided to make our own small, aluminum boat that will be able to carry only an individual in the sea providing him the sensation that he is surfing by just using a gasoline powered engine. 

Firstly, we started our structure by cutting aluminum iron plates into pieces conglutinating them air tightly. In this point, we should say that our preference for the aluminum material was made for its great endurance and its light weight. Therefore, we had the opportunity to experience how to conglutinate aluminum using a mig welder. After connecting the aluminum pieces, we gave them the shape of a small boat keeping its upper surface closed and flat. Then, we had to place the engine at the back of the boat and put a propeller at its end. Next, using the lathe we made all the essential pieces in order to place the axis and the propeller on it and the particular pieces were connected to the engine of our boat. 
We chose an engine that was taken from an old tree-cutting company and it has been repaired before used. Our aim was to connect the engine to our structure without causing any damage in order to be able to be restored to its former function used at the tree-cutting company. Also, we chose the particular engine for various reasons of which the basic one was its small size. Additionally, we regulated the evaporation of the engine to be made on a high point of the boat in order to prevent water going in while evaporating as well as we created air inlets to oxygenate the engine sufficiently. Moreover, we created an output where we put the rope for starting the machine. For our own safety, we made a metallic frame around the propeller. Also, we put a safety switch that is placed in the hand and it deactivates the machine when the user leaves the boat. Our boat weighs about 45kg and it is capable of displacing about 180kg meaning to sink it completely 135kg should be placed on it. At the point, where the axis sticks out of the boat, we prevented the insertion of the water using water seals. Just in case, we placed a water pump inside our boat in order to get the water out if it gets in. 

We must admit that we are very satisfied from our boat’s sailing and the way that it deals with the water. However, we felt very disappointed about the engine used as after numerous attempts and after using multiple propellers, we came into conclusion that we could not get the desirable speed and the power of the engine to use our boat as a surfboard, too.
What we can say for sure, though is that using a more powerful engine and if our structure was lighter, the outcome would be successful. Also, it would be surely more preferable if our engine was water-cooled to avoid high temperatures. Whatismore, for keeping it lighter in size, it would be recommendable to use carbon fiber that is very light in weight and has high water-resistance. In addition, instead of using a propeller, a jet mechanism would be better obtaining a better performance. In conclusion, we have notified many potentials of improving our structure and increasing its functionality and we can certainly say that we will attempt to create such a structure again considering the above potentials of improvement as due to our current budget the particular changes were not feasible to be implemented. 

Nevertheless, completing this structure, we gained more experiences and we had fun every single moment creating it as well as enjoying the sea of our country.

It's possible to use the angle grinder as a chainsaw


Carrying on our tradition of our video sequel for angle grinders, this fourth time we transformed our grinder into another useful machine, a chain saw. Our primary aim for this transformation was experimental while the usefulness of the particular machine came second in our priorities. 

We first did this experiment for multiple reasons such as to see if the angle grinder could really work as a chain saw, whether the angle grinder is burdened, if it gets warm and if it can be used as a last resort in case of an emergency. 

Therefore, our work starts making a metallic plate, on which the angle grinder is adapted and stabilized when necessary. On this metallic plate, we placed a metallic rail taken from an arboricultural factory as well as the chain and the gear of the particular machine. The chain that we placed on the metallic plate is revolved on a high speed without derailing its way supported by the gear that revolves the angle grinder at the particular time. This metallic rail has the potential to move towards and backwards as a result to enable us to set how tight or loose we want our chain to be. 

Then, we made a protective cover around the chain close to the parts that we place our hands in order to reduce any danger. Thus, without any special difficulty the angle grinder 4 is a fact!!!! 

After completing it and testing it, we got amazed by its performance as an electrical chain saw. Although, we consider that this was a transformation of a high risk. Also, we must say that using a bigger angle grinder, the performance will be dramatically increased. However, the advantage of this transformation is that none of the components is modified as a result they can be easily returned unchanged to their primary position, where they were placed at the chainsaw. 

To sum up, this particular transformation costs very little money and it can work in many different cases having great results. Additionally, it is much lighter than the common gasoline powered chainsaws, much less noisy with a small angle grinder and this is obvious when it is used for many hours as its temperature increases.

Making a hoverboard from Junk



Glad to say that's the 42nd structure by make it extreme! For this structure we were inspired from many videos uploaded on youtube where people use hover boards for entertainment. 

Our aim was to make a hoverboard using the parts of an old gym piece of equipment as well as other recycled and reused materials. We took a 300w motor and the electronic parts out of the gym piece of equipment so the motor would be able to perform correctly!

The next stage was to make an axle, using the lathe, where we put two old tires from a crashed four wheeler. Then we placed the electronic parts the motor and the wheels on a metal frame and the hoverboard started getting shape.  

We used a belt to connect the wheels to the motor and that's how we achieved movement using electricity. Here came the issue!! We had to use a 12v battery to a 240v structure! This issue was solved using an inverter, which was the only piece we had to buy, once we didn't own one. Then we placed a metal sheet on the board in order to be able to stand on.

It's dimensions are 110cm x 32cm.  

We initially believed that it would be easy to keep our balance without the use of a gyroscope sensor but when tried, that was extremely difficult. So we 've placed a small wheel behind the wheels in the center and the balance was achieved!!

Using the hoverboard, we noted another serious disadvantage which was the missing of breaks!

It is undoubtedly one of the most extreme hoverboards ever made!!
