Making an Electric Powered Braking Differential

Having in mind to make an electric, chain vehicle, we started doing this project. 

First of all, choosing a differential system taken from a BMW car and a motor taken from an old, electric hand lift we collected the main elements of this creation. The differential system of the car is the part that enables the movement of its wheels and plays an important role to the normal function of the vehicle. Besides the transmission of movement from the motor to the wheels, it also regulates the different speed move among the wheels if it is essential, when the car turns.

Taking advantage of this function, we made our structure. After connecting the motor on the movement entrance of the deferential, we fastened both elements on the metallic frame. Next, we put transmission shafts and two disc brakes on the two exits of the differential, one on each side accordingly. The shafts are responsible for the transmission of the movement to the creepers. In addition, the disc brakes are used to enable the driver of the vehicle to make the transmission to each creeper selectively.

In this way, when we press the right shaft of the differential, the movement of the right creeper stops or decreases and the left one needs to be moved faster so that our vehicle can turn. The opposite happens when we press the right shaft as well.
Concluding, until we create this vehicle we need to solve various problems and to make other pieces like the creepers, the batteries and others. The first part of this vehicle is ready and it was such a pleasant manufacturing creation.

Slotting Machine on a Lathe

Watching various videos on youtube featuring various pulse engines, we decided to make our own pulse engine that we are going to place on a bike in our future project.

Having no experience on this particular thing as it is the first time that we are making it, we got some knowledge from an expert of this kind of things, Rocketman. Although, these motors theoretically are very simple to be made, precision is required to make some parts of them.

First of all, we used a 110mm stainless steel tube of 65cm length that is welded on a cone with 110mm diameter on one side while its longer side has 165mm diameter. This cone has 320mm length.

Afterwards, we welded a cylinder of 320mm on the cone  therefore our machine was made. At the edge of the cylinder, we applied a lid on which there is a rectangular hole 80x100mm from where the air is inserted to the machine. In this hole, we placed the reed valves that consist an inlet valve of air which functions automatically while the motor is working. This valve works as one way valve as it allows the fresh air to enter into the machine while it prevents the combustion gases to exit the machine so the pressure is forced to be applied in high speed from the exit of the machine where the 110mm tube is. This valve works with flexible sheets from spring steel which unfold towards one side. Behind the valve, we placed a hopper that improves the air flow during its entrance to the motor.

Under the motor we have put a fuel nozzle that sprays the petrol in the motor so we have their ignition caused by a constant spark which is approximately in the middle  of the cone. To feedback the fuel we have used a car pump and with a simple mechanism we control the quantity of the fuel that the motor accepts; increasing it and reducing it accordingly.

Regarding the ignition, we have used the sparks taken by a high voltage igniter. The transmission of these sparks is achieved by an ignition spark. Thus, this burning process is implemented in a great frequency and the gases that exit the motor create thrust so we get a motion in various vehicles.

Although, these motors do not have a great performance they are amazing not only functionally but also constructively. The mistake that we did on our own structure is that we have used stainless steel sheets on the reed valves while the ideal material would be the spring steel therefore the function of our motor is not completely normal but this is a false part that we are going to improve in the future.
