More info on the project
E-scooters have become a popular choice for urban mobility due to their compact design, low cost, and compatibility with public transportation. At Make it Extreme, we set out to push this concept further by creating a hybrid scooter that combines both a 50cc internal combustion engine and an electric hub motor. The result is a 2×2 scooter capable of operating in combustion, electric, or hybrid mode.
Powertrain & Drivetrain
Internal Combustion Engine: 50cc engine sourced from a damaged motorcycle.
Rear Wheel: Quad bike rim and wide tire for improved stability and scooter-like geometry.
Electric Motor: Front hub motor from an e-scooter, independently driving the front wheel.
Dual Drive: Both engines can operate together, increasing torque and classifying the scooter as a 2×2 drive system.
Structural Design
Frame: Custom front structure doubling as both rider’s platform and integrated fuel tank.
Battery & Controller: Positioned adjacent to the fuel tank for compact layout and balanced weight distribution.
Control System:
Right-hand throttle → controls petrol engine.
Left-hand throttle → controls electric hub motor.
Operating Modes
Combustion Mode – Suitable for long distances and demanding terrain.
Electric Mode – Silent and fuel-free operation for short trips or noise-sensitive environments.
Hybrid Mode – Both motors engaged simultaneously for maximum performance and torque output.
